Guide

New here? This page covers your first hour in World 18: how to get in, what to pick on your first login, what you start with, and where to find things.

Getting in

World 18 is in closed alpha, so you need to be let in as an alpha tester. During the alpha there is one account per tester. After launch, alts are allowed as long as they are not used to get around the rules or game mechanics. This is how you get in:

  1. Join our Discord.
  2. Open #create-ticket and press Request Alpha. A staff member will get you set up.
  3. Once you're in, our bot sends you a message to pick your account name. Download the client and log in with the details from the bot.

Once you're in, our bot sends you a direct message on Discord. Reply with the username you want: 1 to 12 characters, letters, numbers and spaces. Choose carefully, because name changes aren't available yet. A name can also be turned down by our language filter; if that happens, just pick another one. The bot then sends you a temporary password.

Get the client from the Download tab (you log in there with Discord). Extract the ZIP with Windows Explorer (right-click, Extract All), open the extracted folder and double-click World18.exe.

The first time, Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" window. That's normal for a new program: click More info, then Run anyway. If World18.exe doesn't start, run World18.bat in the World18-files folder. After a game update, close the client and start it again.

Log in with your username and temporary password. On your first login you set your own password. Closed that window? Type ::password to open it again.

Not let in yet? Then the login screen says "Incorrect username or password." After 5 wrong attempts within 15 minutes the account is locked for 15 minutes.

If the Alpha Tester role is removed, so is your access. Get the role back and you get the same name back, and your password still works.

Staff will never ask for your password.

Your first login

On your first login the W18 Major asks you two things.

Account mode: Main or Skiller.

Difficulty:

  • PK Ready: maximum combat stats, 300x skill XP, no drop bonus. Main only.
  • Casual: 250x XP, +20% drops.
  • Veteran: 150x XP, +50% drops.
  • Pilgrim: 75x XP, +100% drops.

Choose carefully: you can't change this yourself later. The modes may still change before the open beta.

Your starter kit

You start with nothing equipped. Everything is in your backpack:

Leather boots, leather gloves, an amulet of power, a staff of air, 500 air runes, 250 mind runes, a bronze pickaxe, a bronze axe, a tinderbox, a hammer and 500,000 coins.

The W18 Major also has a one-time bonus: 200 lobsters and 200 sharks as notes, and 10 potions. Make sure you have 12 free inventory slots when you collect it.

Home: Edgeville

Home is Edgeville. Here you'll find the bank, the Grand Exchange, shops, a Slayer Master and the W18 Major. The magic tree on the square is just for looks.

The AFK corner is in the south-east garden: a yew that never falls, a gold rock that never runs out and two fishing spots in the river. Bring the tool; logs, ore and fish go straight to your bank. Every catch earns AFK points, which are kept on your account: you keep them when you die and they can't be traded. W18 AFK in the corner has a shop with two tabs, AFK Corner and Rewards, and the 18 Ladder, which you climb with an 18 Key. The 18 Ladder is closed for now.

Commands

  • ::tp or ::teleports: open the teleport menu (50 destinations).
  • ::password: change your password.
  • ::discord <code>: link your Discord account (see below).
  • ::afkpoints: check your AFK points.

If you die

Outside the Wilderness you respawn at home and keep 3 items, or 4 with Protect Item. Everything else stays where you died. Food and potions are visible to everyone; the rest only you can see for about a minute, then other players can too.

Link your Discord

  1. Type /link in our Discord. The bot sends you a private code.
  2. Log in and type ::discord <code> in the chat box.
  3. You get the Verified role automatically.

The code works for 10 minutes. You can disconnect again with /unlink.
